Music of John Denver to be featured in Mathews
The songs are timeless. The resemblance is remarkable. Accomplished musician and singer Jim Curry will bring a rebirth to the enduring music of America’s troubadour, John Denver, in his production of “Take Me Home: the Music of John Denver” set for Sunday, October 9, at Mathews High School.
Civil War-era documents sought; venue changed
The Middlesex Chapter of the State Sesquicentennial Committee is seeking documents of any kind from before, during, and after the Civil War. This effort is part of the Virginia State Library’s Legacy Project, whose goal is to identify, scan, and preserve documents and photos from the time around the Civil War.
Friends of Deltaville Library celebrate 25th anniversary
The Friends of the Deltaville Library celebrated its 25th anniversary at its annual meeting on Friday, September 16, at the Deltaville Maritime Museum. The guest speaker was former Governor Linwood Holton, who talked about some of the memorable events of his life.
Oyster Fest Queen contestant hosts ‘Delta Jam’ to aid tornado-relief effort
As her community service project, Urbanna Oyster Festival Queen contestant Allison Crittenden, a senior at Christchurch School, held “Delta Jam,” a benefit music concert to raise money for tornado relief in Deltaville. Crittenden felt that her project would help her hometown in its time of need.
Red Cross honors three local leaders
The River Counties Chapter of the Red Cross hosted its annual Leadership Banquet at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club last week, honoring Carolyn Schmalenberger of Middlesex County, Philip Belfield of Richmond County and the late Austin Roberts III of Lancaster County.
