King Day celebration is Monday
The King and Queen African American History and Research Organization, along with all of the churches of the county, will sponsor the 14th Annual King Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 19, at noon. This year’s celebration will be in the auditorium of Central High School.

Birds flock to Rolling Road Gallery

Interpretations of birds as a theme in the visual arts has a long and interesting history, and the exhibition features mostly prints, but will also include drawings, paintings, and sculpture, ranging from the late 1700s to the present. The exhibition is on view through March 22.

Local teacher plans creative writing workshop
Dr. Susan Schmidt will hold a creative writing workshop in Urbanna for local writers beginning Monday, Jan. 19. Dr. Susan Schmidt currently teaches English and sailing at Christchurch School.

Come out Fighting: motto of 761st Tank Battalion

In the winter of 1944-45, Raymond W. Burrell of Deltaville was fighting with the now famous 761st Tank Battalion that saw extensive action at the Battle of the Bulge—Hitler’s last desperate effort to stop the Allies at the border of France and Germany.
