The guest speaker at the June 9 Middlesex Lions Club meeting, Gordon Eliot White, gave a most informative history of Moore's Creek in Deltaville. Mr. White comes from an interesting and diverse background. He is originally from Glen Ridge, N.J., attended schools in New York, and holds degrees from Cornell University in history, and Columbia University in journalism.
Talent Search is Saturday at Donk’s Theater
This Saturday, June 27, Donk’s Theater in Mathews, Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry, will host its third Talent Search of the year. On Talent Search nights, Donk’s opens its microphones to talented performers who want to compete while performing with a live band. Contestants may accompany themselves with an instrument or they may use the Shades of Country band for their presentation. Because of space and time limitations, the competition does not include bands.
Maritime Museum Farmers’ Market this Saturday
It's calendar time; get yours out and mark these dates. The next Farmers’ Market is set for Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's looking very good that we'll have produce at the market and we'll be moving it under the trees back by the creek.
Jazz concert will honor RCC library supporters
On Wednesday, July 1, the Friends of the Rappahannock Community College Library Center will sponsor a free concert of jazz and classic American songs by vocalist and keyboard player Jennifer Kirkland and guitarist Bert Carlson.
Urbanna seeking entries for July 3 boat parade
On Friday, July 3, the town will celebrate Independence Day with several activities at the Urbanna Town Marina at Upton's Point on Urbanna Creek. The Annual Boat Parade will be at 6:30 p.m. on Urbanna Creek, and fireworks over the creek will follow.
