Urbanna Family Fun Day set for August 30



This year’s Urbanna Family Fun Day from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, at the Urbanna firehouse promises to be filled with an afternoon of fun games and a good time for all ages. There will a carnival theme this year.

“Sweet Justice” will be performing from 4 to 7 p.m. “Sweet Justice plays a variety of music and is very well known in this area, and we are very happy to have them join us this year,” said event chair Lois Jean Brooks. 

Charlie Culley will again serve as DJ and sound man.

A juggler will perform for the children.

The big slide will return along with some new carnival-type games, which are sponsored by the Town of Urbanna. Also returning will be the No Strings Attached puppet show from Urbanna Baptist Church, and entertainment by the Urbanna Oyster Festival Queen contestants and Little Miss Spat contestants.

Returning will be the popular watermelon-eating contest for all ages with prizes sponsored by Rappahannock Jewelry and Urbanna Republic. There will be a hayride sponsored by Bethpage Camp-Resort, fire truck rides, and the popular dunking booth. 

The Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary has been selling raffle tickets for a trip to Nags Head and will give this trip away on Family Fun Day. There will be some tickets available the day of the event, and can still be purchased from any auxiliary member. The tickets are $5 each. This trip is sponsored by All Seasons Travel Agency of Kilmarnock.

Dora the Explorer and Blue from Blue’s Clues will visit with the children during the afternoon. Moo’s Diner is the sponsor for these special guests.

This year’s displays will be the Virginia State Police, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department, Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department, and the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad.

This year’s games will include the limbo game, tricycle race game (tricycles will be furnished along with helmets), the popular “Fireman’s Muster,” and face painting with the Oyster Festival contestants.

The food menu this year will consist of “Firehouse Hot Dogs,” hamburgers, homemade barbecue, French fries, snow cones from Moo’s Diner, and drinks. Bring a chair or blanket.

This event is sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Urbanna.
