UMVFD Auxiliary Oyster & Ham Supper is Saturday
The Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host its annual Fall Oyster and Ham Buffet Supper on Saturday, November 9, at the Water View Firehouse from 4:30-6:30 p.m. (new time). Tickets will be on sale at the door for $22 for adults and $5 for children age 10 and under.
Patrons may eat in or take-out. Call the firehouse (758-5200) on Saturday and place your order ahead of time.
“This is an all-you-can eat buffet for $22 for adults—there’s no charge for your beverage, no charge for sides, no charge for desserts, no tip and no tax,” said Cathy Russell, an auxiliary member.
“We haven’t changed our prices in years, but auxiliary member Pat Brooks and I were astounded to find out how much prices had increased since last March,” continued Russell. “We don’t just buy at the first business we come to, we go from Sam’s to BJ’s to Wal-Mart, to Food Lion, Urbanna Market, to S&J Foods and to Big John’s to find the least expensive items that we need. This shopping usually results in at least three days on the move to purchase everything.
“As all of our fire department and rescue squad companies know, we rely on your donations and support of our fundraisers to keep us going. Costs for equipment, gear and maintenance increases every year. We are here to help our communities and county as best we can with fires, accidents and medical calls—we are volunteers and cannot do our job without your help. Your contributions to the fire departments and rescue squads are tax-deductible. Please remember to support your department in your community and also make a contribution to the others in the county. The lives and properties that they save some day may be your own,” said Russell.
Proceeds from the Oyster and Ham Supper go toward the loan for the new truck.
“We thank you in advance for your support and look forward to serving you at the supper on Saturday night,” said Russell. “Some changes/additions have been made to the menu, but you can count on those good oysters from Shores and Ruark being number one on the table.”
