Stephen Bennett (above), world famous harp guitarist, will play at the Gami Gala at Gloucester Arts on Main.

On Saturday, November 16, internationally known and acclaimed master of the harp guitar, Stephen Bennett, is coming to Gloucester to be part of the Gami Gala—the annual fund-raising event for Gloucester Arts on Main.

Bennett is an acknowledged master of the harp guitar, a challenging teacher, a gifted composer, and a performer of astounding sensitivity. The Toronto Fingerstyle Guitar Association calls him “the Jedi Master of Fingerstyle Guitar.”

S. Rekas of Mel Bay Publications said, “The image of Stephen Bennett embracing his harp guitar is the one that tends to linger. The fact that Stephen is only too happy to champion the cause of the harp guitar may inadvertently obscure his abilities on the six-string instrument. In what is becoming known as the Golden Age of Guitar Luthiery, it’s easy to overlook the fact that this is also the Golden Age of Guitar Playing. With six strings or more, as one of the most original and prolific composers and arrangers for the guitar on the current scene, Stephen Bennett is clearly a part of the latter heritage.”

Matt Thomas, a protégé of Bennett, will start the musical presentations of the event.

Complementing the presentation will be a wide selection of heavy appetizers, dinner, desserts and a cash bar.

The events menu created by the gallery’s food designer, Shari, will feature smoked salmon with feta, tzatziki, olives and pita triangles, tomato soup with grilled cheese croutons, wedge salad served with mustard and Gruyere batons, lobster macaroni and cheese, chicken cacciatore with orange roaster carrots and parsnips.

Desserts will be by Keri Reidell, formerly of Main Street Cake Company.

Tickets are $50 and there are only 60 tickets available for this event, which will take place from 5-10 p.m. The public is invited to contact the gallery and purchase tickets while they are still available. There will be a complimentary bottle of wine for an 8-person table group, and there will be silent and live auctions.

Gloucester Arts on Main is at 6580-B Main Street in Gloucester. Call 804-824-9464, visit http://www.gloucesterarts.org, or email for more information.
