Thompson joins concert lineup at maritime park
Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park announced this week that premier Virginia singer/songwriter Robbin Thompson will join its 2013 lineup for the “Groovin’ in the Park” concert series. Thompson will perform on Saturday, July 27, at the Steve Bassett show.
Groovin’ is the maritime parks annual, every fourth Saturday, April through September, casual outdoor music series.
Updates and additions to any of the museum’s music schedules or other events and activities can always be found on the museum website.
Thompson and Bassett, both prolific and successful Virginia-grown performers and songwriters in their own right, have a 30-plus-year history of collaboration on song writing, albums and acclaimed performances. They have recently been performing and writing together again after a too long hiatus.
“With the new events pavilion in the works, and its versatile, partially-enclosed design, I have been working on putting together a cold-weather counterpoint to Groovin’ for the pavilion’s enclosed north wing. Because it would be inside, it would be a more intimate, interactive venue for the performer and audience. I had been saving Robbin to be one of the lead-off performers for this new series,” said Bill Powell, museum volunteer and events director.
“However, it turns out that Steve and Robbin have been writing and arranging up a storm and are currently putting together a new CD. As they will be either finished, or close to finishing, by July, they really want to show off their new materiel and arrangements. Hey, it may even be a ‘CD release’ event. Who knows!” continued Powell.
