Sisters raise over $6,000 for diabetes research

Caitlyn and Courtlyn Warren and their team, “The Huckleberries Step Up.”

Caitlyn and Courtlyn Warren, twin granddaughters of Arlene and Bobby Warren of Deltaville, received two awards for their contributions to the American Diabetes Association’s “Central Virginia Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes” program.

The event took place on October 1, at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond. Joining over 100 teams of corporations, friends, families and clubs, Caitlyn and Courtlyn’s team, “The Huckleberries Step Up,” raised over $6,000 to benefit the association’s mission “to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.”

The Warren twins received the award for Top Friends and Family Team, as well as each individually being “Champions to Stop Diabetes” by personally raising over $1,000.

“I want to personally express my thanks to the Warren family for all of their hard work in helping the American Diabetes Association. We are overwhelmed with their continued support and proud to have them as part of the ADA family,” said Elisabeth King, manager for the Central Virginia office.

The Warren twins attend Manchester High School in Chesterfield County where they are both honor students in the Mass Communications Program and members of The Beta Club and Future Business Leaders of America. They play field hockey and tennis for Manchester. Caitlyn is secretary and Courtlyn is treasurer of their Junior Class.

The Central Virginia Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes has raised $227,000, with additional gifts still coming in. If you would like to support Caitlyn and Courtlyn’s efforts by making a donation before December 31, please visit their website, or send a contribution to: American Diabetes Association, Attn: Elisabeth King, 4335 Cox Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
