Virginia Secretary of Public Safety Marla Decker paid a visit to the Urbanna Oyster Festival this year to meet with officials and emergency personnel working the event.
Middlesex Sheriff David Bushey met Secretary Decker upon her arrival and gave her a tour of the Oyster Festival command center and the festival itself.
Secretary Decker said, “I am very pleased with Sheriff Bushey’s ability to collaborate with the state police and other sheriff’s departments throughout Virginia to ensure a safe environment for attendees of the festival.”
Secretary Decker also said she was very pleased with the overall organization of the event and commented how much work had to be involved by the festival planners.
The trip was not all business, however, as Urbanna Fire Chief Ray Burch had Secretary Decker participate in Friday’s Fireman’s Parade by riding on an Urbanna fire truck. Secretary Decker commented that was “the highlight” of her visit.
