Run/walk on June 13 to benefit Humane Society

On Saturday, June 13, the Mathews Land Conservancy will host the first Williams Wharf 5-Mile Distance Run and 1-Mile Pet Walk. This new event is the second race of the 2009 Williams Wharf Race Series and benefits the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society and the Mathews Land Conservancy.

The 5-mile run will feature a flat and fast course, eight age groups for men and for women, trophies to the top three male and female finishers, medals to the top three in each age group, printed T-shirts while supplies last, and drawings for free prizes. Early registration ends June 1. Registrations will be accepted after June 1 and on race day for an additional fee.

The 1-mile pet walk will be a casual stroll with a pet around beautiful Williams Wharf Landing with a breath-taking view of the East River. A trophy will be awarded to the pet with the most donations, and there will be drawings for free prizes. A new large pavilion is available for shade and shelter.

For complete information and entry forms, visit gloucestermathewshumanesociety.org and look under upcoming events. If additional information is needed, email or call Richard Browder at 725-4337. Sponsor opportunities are available.
