Rotary Club’s Pride of Middlesex tickets on sale

Middlesex Rotary’s Pride of Middlesex award winner for 2013 is Norton Hurd. He was born in Deltaville, and graduated from Syringa High School and Lynchburg College.

After graduation, he coached baseball and basketball at Amelia High School for several years. In 1941, Hurd joined the U.S. Navy Air Reserve. In 1946 he started Hurd’s Hardware in Deltaville. The following year he married Alvine Taylor, who is also from Deltaville. They have three children and several grandchildren.

Hurd, 96, continues to live in Deltaville with his wife and frequently continues to help out at Hurd’s Hardware. Hurd has been a member of numerous civic organizations.

To hear more about Hurd and to help celebrate his achievements, consider attending the Pride of Middlesex event. The dinner will be held on Friday, April 5, at Christchurch School. Tickets are available at Hurd’s, or call Pam Waldron at 776-0032 or Ron Kauffman at 694-6416. The cost for a table of eight is $300; table sponsorships are $350; couples are $75; and a single ticket is $40.
