What a wonderful week it was on the waterfront at the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park! Nine large “build” teams built their very own Wright Skiffs from stacks of wood beginning on Monday, July 13. By Friday afternoon they were ready to float.

The teams and their boats competed in the skiff race at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. After the race and trophy presentation, all the teams, volunteers and guests lined up at Billz Bistro in the pavilion for the annual fish fry, officially ending the week-long camp.

The Great Skiff Race winner was Team Mince on “Family Ties.”

Other trophies awarded were: Best Name, “Family Ties,” Team Mince; Most Focused, “Vitamin Sea,” Team Coulson; Best Teamwork, “Pirate Skiff,” Team Boulinot; Tom Sawyer Award, “Glory,” Team Adams; Most Colorful, “Favor,” Team Savage; Most Authentic, “Sea Cat,” Team Rowe; First Boat in the Water, “USS Y Knot,” Team YMCA; Most Putty Used, “Even Keel,” Team Parker; Pass the Buck Award, “Sea Lilly,” Team Ryan; Leakiest, “Sea Cat,” Team Rowe; and First to Finish, “Family Ties,” Team Mince. A great time was had by all!

Applications for Family Boatbuilding Week 2016, scheduled for July 11-16, are now available on the museum website at http://www.deltavillemuseum.com and in the museum office (776-7200).
