Ware Academy will host two different special events to celebrate the arts in January.

Beginning Thursday, January 12, at 9 a.m., “Imani Winds” will visit the school to play and perform for students and the public.

Imani Winds is more than North America’s premier wind quintet; Imani Winds has established itself as one of the most successful chamber music ensembles in the United States. Since 1997, the Grammy-nominated quintet has taken a unique path, carving out a distinct presence in the classical music world with its dynamic playing, culturally poignant programming, genre-blurring collaborations, and inspirational outreach programs.

With two member composers and a deep commitment to commissioning new work, the group is enriching the traditional wind quintet repertoire while meaningfully bridging European, American, African and Latin American traditions.

Imani Winds’ has played in many of this country’s major concert venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Disney Hall and Kimmel Center.

“Please join us on Thursday, January 12, at 9 a.m. to hear the wide range of talent this ensemble has to offer.,” said a Ware spokesperson.

Secondly, author/cartoonist Marc Nobleman will visit Ware Academy in Gloucester on Friday, January 20, at 8:30 am.  Nobleman is the Maryland author of more than 70 children’s books, including the award-winning “Boys of Steel: The Creators of Superman,” the only standalone biography of writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, the two young Jewish teens who dreamed up the world’s first superhero. It was named a Sydney Taylor Notable Book of Jewish Content 2009, earned multiple starred reviews, was honored as a 2009 American Library Association Notable Book, was included on multiple “best of the year” lists, and was featured in a USA Today cover story.

Nobleman has written extensively for Nickelodeon and also is a cartoonist (Wall Street Journal, Good Housekeeping, two Scholastic books).

Ware Academy invites the public to come hear Imani Winds and meet Nobleman. Inquiries for either enrichment event should be directed to Ginger James at 693-3825 or email at
