Pratt wins women’s U.S. oyster shucking title

Virginia Oyster Shucking Champion Deborah Pratt of Jamaica in Middlesex County won the Women’s Division of the National Oyster Shucking Contest at St. Mary’s County, Maryland, last Saturday.  Pratt finished first by beating Cathy Millikin of Supply, N.C., with a time of 3:22.81.

In the finals between the men’s and women’s champions, Pratt lost to world champion William Chopper Young, who was representing the state of Massachusetts.

Last month, Young won the World Oyster Shucking Title in Galway, Ireland. On Saturday, Young defeated Pratt in the U.S. Championship with an adjusted time of 2:49.03. Pratt finished second in 3:49.6.
