Four “Pirate” re-enactor “crewes” from the Eastern seaboard were featured at the Colonial Maritime Festival Saturday, June 5, at the Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park in Deltaville.
The “Crewe of the Vigilant” from Baltimore, Md., “Crewe of the Archangel” from Charlottesville, Blackbeard’s Crewe from Hampton and the sponsoring “Crewe of the Luna” of Deltaville, competed in a Pirate Olympics, pitting their seafaring and related skills against each other for bragging rights.
Shooting weapons from the 16th and 17th century, raiding tactics, tug-of-wars, and Colonial navigation were among the competitions.
The Middlesex-based Colonial Seaport Foundation, founded in 2007, is currently restoring the “Luna” at well-known boat builder John Collamore’s property in Deltaville. The foundation is dedicated to the restoration of the “Luna” and the preservation and presentation of Colonial skills both land based and seafaring.
Those interested in being a part of the foundation and its restoration of the “Luna” should contact Jacque Collamore at .
