Kathleen Noffsinger of Hartfield was awarded “Best in Show” in September at the Mathews Art Group’s juried show during Mathews Market Days.

Artist Kathleen Noffsinger of Hartfield recently won the Best in Show award for her watercolor paintings at the Mathews Art Group Art Show during Mathews Market Days. It was the second year in a row she has won this award, which was for her entire body of work.

A popular art teacher for area and East Coast art leagues, Noffsinger will teach a two-day watercolor workshop at the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews on October 16-17. “Painting Nature: Beautiful Flowers and Birds in Watercolor” will include lessons on both watercolor paper and Ampersand Aquabord, a clay-surfaced board made for watercolor painting. Lessons will include painting creatively in both realistic and impressionist styles using transparent glazing techniques. Following a demonstration of color mixing, Noffsinger will provide students with her own drawing of a great blue heron for students to paint. The cost for the workshop is $100. To register, call the Bay School at 725-1278.

On October 23-24, Noffsinger will teach a watercolor workshop titled “The Next Step-Improving your New Watercolor Skills,” the second of a three-part workshop series at the Rappahannock Art League (RAL) in Kilmarnock. This workshop for beginning painters will include wet-in-wet and wet-on-dry watercolor techniques and lessons on glazing, background texture and the flat and gradated wash.

The third workshop in the Rappahannock Art League series, “How to Paint Like a Pro-Advancing Your Painting Skills in Watercolor,” will be November 13-14 and is for the beginner to intermediate student who is interested in taking his painting skills to the next level.

The cost for each 2-day workshop is $90 for RAL members and $95 for non-members. For information or registration call the RAL Studio Gallery at 436-9309.
