Musical duo to perform July 8 at YMCA
On Wednesday, July 8, at 2 p.m., Kim and Jimbo Cary will entertain children at the Middlesex Family YMCA at Hartfield with their program “Rhythms Around the World.” This program is part of the “Be Creative @ Your Library” summer reading program sponsored by the Middlesex County Public Library. It is free and open to all children and their caregivers.
Performing together professionally for over 20 years, the Carys have reached more than 100,000 children and adults at schools, libraries, museums, festivals and cultural centers throughout the state. They love making their own instruments from gourds and bamboo grown in Virginia. Both continue to study West African string music and other musical forms.
In addition to years of performing throughout the state, they coordinate the music for the Nelson County Summer Festival and for the Mountain Music Festival at Wintergreen resort. The Carys teach at music camps, including Camp Holiday Lake in Appomattox and Kaleidoscope vocal camp in Blackstone.
“The Carys are dedicated to sharing their love of music with audiences throughout Virginia. The library encourages you to bring your children to this most unique and educational performance,” said a library spokesperson.
