Middlesex YMCA 10K walkers/runners

Some of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K participants who represented the Middlesex YMCA last Saturday posed for the above photo prior to the start of the race. From left, they are Carolyn Salmon, Sally Firkins, Mary Davis, Kristen Brown, Marcy Thompson and Lisa Walker. Team members not pictured, but completing the race, are Janet Herndon and Buzz Lambert.

“I am particularly proud of our YMCA training team, which persevered for the past 10 weeks in preparation for Saturday’s event,” said Middlesex YMCA executive director Buzz Lambert. “Be it early Saturday morning runs or below freezing elements, our group remained steadfast and determined to complete this journey together. We definitely will be planning another training team for this fall’s Richmond marathon/½ marathon/8K series of races. I see this group growing exponentially as people make exercise a habit. More importantly, they have a built-in support network of friends to keep them motivated and accountable all the way to the end.”

One of the team members stated, “Following a specific training program and being accountable to team members made all of the difference for me personally.” Over 30,000 people of all ages participated in the 10K. Lambert finished 9th in the men’s age 30–34 division, and in the top 100 overall.
