Middlesex Museum to host open house Sunday

Museum executive director Holly Horton

The Middlesex County Museum and Historical Society will host an open house this Sunday, May 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. and the public is invited.

Everything old is new again as the whole museum has been rearranged and reconfigured. Many items have been brought out of storage and added to the restructured displays.

New areas include: The Pullers of Middlesex County; Serving Their Country; Veterans from the Revolutionary War to the Korean War; African American History: Standing Tall; and Dr. Williams: Home for the Weekend.

Other areas of interest include Oystering; the History of Education; the Money of Middlesex; Fossils; Native American artifacts; 19th Century Textiles; and the Country Store. There is something for all age groups and diverse interests.

Special items on display include Civil War pistols on loan from Douglas Gray, and a WWII uniform and photos donated by Frances Hall.

Dr. Charles Williams has donated extensive family photos of life in Middlesex County in the 1950s-60s as well as his “on-call” medical black bag.

Refreshments will be served, so bring the whole family.

The Middlesex County Museum & Historical Society is located at 777 General Puller Highway in Saluda, across the street from Puller Park and one block from the historic courthouse square and clerk’s office.
