A Middlesex County resident, Parks is one of five finalists in the “Best First Novel” category for his book “Faces of the Gone.” The Shamus is given annually by the Private Eye Writers of America. Past winners of the award, now in its 29th year, include Sue Grafton, Michael Connelly and Harlan Coben.
This year’s winner will be announced in October at a banquet in San Francisco.
“It’s an absolute thrill to be nominated,” Parks said. “This award recognizes the very best of the craft, and I’m honored to be included.”
Parks’ book, which released last December from St. Martin’s Press, was also recently nominated for a Nero Award. It landed on several prominent critics’ lists as being among the best first mysteries of 2009 and was hailed by Library Journal as “the most hilariously funny and deadly serious mystery debut since Janet Evanovich.”
Parks’ second novel, “Eyes of the Innocent,” is due out in February.
Parks is scheduled to speak at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Deltaville Library on September 19 from 2-4 p.m.
