Chessa Lowery and her dog Nova of Topping presented Mary Wakefield Buxton and her dog, Dandy, with a basketful of money with over $160 in cash at the Middlesex Animal Shelter on Sunday.

Chessa has stipulated that half of the money go to the proposed Dog Friends Park and the other half go to help pay medical costs for the homeless dogs of Middlesex County.

Chessa collected the money from her classmates at Middlesex Elementary School in lieu of birthday presents at her 9th birthday party last week in order to help the county’s homeless dogs. She is in Michele Bland’s third grade class.

Chessa and her friends also are organizing a dog walking team to help the homeless dogs at the shelter get exercise each day.

Other contributors to the dog park this week are: Helen and T.R. Shelly of Jupiter, Florida, who vacation each summer in Deltaville, in memory of their dog Missy, $100; Deborah Bryant, $50; and Scott and Mary Mabe, $1,500.

As of February 3, $3,185 of the needed $13,500 for the proposed Dog Friends Park has been donated.
