Memorial Day program set for May 24
The annual VFW Post #9501 and American Legion Post #314 Memorial Day program has been set for Sunday, May 24, at 3 p.m. at Memorial Park, commonly known as the Caleb and Mary Pollard Family Veterans Memorial Park, adjacent to the VFW Building on Route 30, four miles north of Route 360 at Central Garage in King William County.
This year’s featured speaker will be a Hanover County resident along with one local youth speaker. The youth speaker will be the VFW “Voice of Democracy” local winner who is a graduating senior at King William High School.
Patriotic songs will be provided by the Beulah Baptist Church River Jordan Singers from King William.
The JROTC Cadets from King and Queen Central High School have been invited to participate, and the pastor of Third Union Baptist Church will deliver the invocation and sing a special selection.
As in the past, another very special activity will include “the reading of the names” that are inscribed on the park’s memorial stones surrounding the flag poles. The memorial park project includes the “names” of veterans from the five counties of Caroline, Essex, Hanover, King and Queen and King William.
