Maritime Museum meeting & oyster roast Saturday

The Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park’s Annual Members Meeting will be this Saturday, September 12, from 4 to 5 p.m. The meeting will be followed by an oyster roast for members and their guests from 5 to 9 p.m.

The members meeting business session will include a recap of the past year’s activities and improvements, and election of new members to the board. After the meeting, Dr. David Malmquist of VIMS will speak on the VIMS research as pertains to Bay fisheries.

The Oyster Roast begins at 5 p.m. with a social hour featuring music by local favorites “Jumbo Lump Daddy.” The buffet will be served from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with oysters steamed and on the half-shell, barbecue, hot dogs, and Manhattan clam chowder. Music will resume following the dinner. Iced tea, water and beverages will be served.

Tickets for members and their guests are now $35 each and are still available at Nauti Nell’s in Deltaville, the museum office, and at the door. If you have sent your ticket requests by mail and have not received your tickets, they will be at the ticket table as “will call.”

Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park are located in Deltaville at 287 Jackson Creek Road and on Mill Creek. It is an all-volunteer, all-donation facility.

To find out more about the museum and its offerings, or to become a member, visit the website at http://www.deltavilleva.com and click “museumpark,” or Google Deltaville Maritime Museum. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily.
