Macon wins another oyster shucking title

Oyster shuckers in the Professional Men’s Division battle it out in the Virginia Oyster Shucking Competition at the Urbanna Oyster Festival last Saturday.

Clementine Boyd Macon of Middlesex edged Robert Minor of Gwynn’s Island by less than a second to win the Virginia Oyster Shucking Competition at the Urbanna Oyster Festival last Saturday. Macon had a winning time of 3:08.0 and Minor was clocked at 3:08.97. Macon has won the event several times.

The complete results are as follows:

Amateur Division, shucking 12 oysters:

First Place, Sam Davis of Moon, adjusted time 2:20.

Second Place, Dylan Southern of Newport News, adjusted time 2:24.

Third Place, Cyrus Brame of New Kent, adjusted time 2:37.

Professional Men’s Division, shucking 24 oysters: 

First Place, Robert Minor of Gwynn’s Island, adjusted time 3:25.

Second Place, Christopher Armstrong of Virginia Beach, adjusted time 3:26.

Third Place, Ian Johnson of Virginia Beach, adjusted time 3:38.

Professional Women’s Division, shucking 24 oysters: 

First Place, Clementine Boyd Macon of Urbanna, adjusted time 3:35.

Second Place, Jaime Southern of Norfolk, adjusted time 4:57.

The first place winners in each of the three divisions then competed for overall champion, shucking 24 oysters:

First Place, Clementine Boyd Macon with a time 3:08:00.

Second Place, Robert Minor with a time of 3:08:97.

Third Place, Sam Davis with a time of 4:43:75.
