Labor Day Art show begins Sept. 2 at RW-C

For the second year in a row, Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury (RW-C) in Irvington will host the Rappahannock Art League’s 48th Annual Labor Day Art Show.  The show will begin September 2 and continue through Labor Day weekend, ending September 7.

The showcase will feature the work of more than 100 regional artists, with more than 200 paintings, prints, watercolors, sculptures and other creations on display.

The Labor Day Show, Rappahannock Art League’s (RAL) signature event, has been held in various locations in the Northern Neck since its inception in the 1960s. More than 400 local art enthusiasts attended last year’s event at RWC.

Tom Norris, a well-known photographer and president of RAL, got involved with the organization in the early 1990s and has exhibited his work at Labor Day Shows at various locations over the past decade.

“The Northern Neck is teeming with an incredible array of art, and it is a defining part of our region’s character,” Norris said.  “We are thrilled to be returning to Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, which is the perfect backdrop for displaying such a broad collection of artwork.  We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones.”

The show will launch with an open welcome reception at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2.  RWC will provide the catering and entertainment.

“We’re delighted to host the Labor Day show again this year,” said RW-C president Stuart Bunting.  “The Rappahannock Art League is one of our region’s true treasures, and we’re pleased to be able to partner with them on what has become a signature event for the Northern Neck.”

Sponsors include Rappahannock Foundation for the Arts, Carousel Physical Therapy, Chesapeake & Crescent Home, Cuttin Up, and Noblett Appliances & Propane.
