The Urbanna Farmers Market kicks off its 2019 season on Saturday, May 11, at Taber Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. By now most folks in Middlesex County and our surrounding neighbors are well familiar with this seasonal event and look forward to all that it offers.

On its May 11 opener, visitors and guests will be treated to the usual fare of fresh vegetables, organic beef and chicken, farm-fresh eggs, honey, candles, soaps, jewelry, crafts and “Miss Mary’s Seafood,” a big success from last year. Miss Mary invites those interested in ordering her fresh catches in advance for pick up at the market to call her.

Interested? She can be reached in White Stone at 804-435-7838.

Also on deck again this year will be the tastiest pork rinds ever for those aficionados of that particular delicacy.

To accompany all the goings on during the market, including a kids’ area, the 50-50 drawing and a couple of adoptable pooches from “Pet Friends for Life,” will be the acoustical music of Kris Scott. Kris and his group have been big hits wherever they play and enjoy a wide following. Committee chair Beth Justice has worked hard to organize the live music agenda for this summer and praises its valued sponsors which include The Auto Spa, Bay Design Group, Half Shell Grill and Something Different. Their generosity makes the entire season’s live music possible.

There will be more to come at the Urbanna Farmers Market as the season progresses so put the second Saturday in May, June, July, August and September on your calendars. Vendors and volunteers are always welcome. Interested? Email and check out our Facebook page and our newspaper, the Southside Sentinel.
