‘Just Gardens Tour’ set for May 16-17

The 13th Annual “Just Gardens Tour” to benefit The Haven Shelter & Services Inc. is set for Friday and Saturday, May 16-17.

This tour has become a favorite spring event for thousands of garden lovers from across Virginia and beyond. As of the end of last year, the Just Gardens Committee had donated $142,848 to The Haven for the construction of their shelter, to maintain the facility, and ensure quality services to residents in the future, and establish “Shoppe for Haven’s Sake” thrift store.

This two-day tour is designed to educate and encourage gardeners to consider plants they might grow in their own gardens and offers a chance to see new parts of the Northern Neck. Tour-goers will see different approaches to garden design for historic farms, as well as dramatic solutions to riverside erosion control. Master Gardeners and garden owners will be on hand to assist with any questions about the gardens.

The 2014 tour will be held in Essex County and will feature five wonderful gardens in and around Tappahannock. Gardens on the tour include: Kendale Gardens, owners Sue and Harrison Wellford; The Terraces, owner Roy Fontane; Little Egypt, owners David Henderson and Wesley Pippenger; and Shelba, owners Cynthia and Richard Carter and Cherry Walk Farm, owners Beverley and Walter Rowland.

Tickets are $15 in advance and available at The Dandelion in Irvington, The Pedestal in Kilmarnock, Wildest Dreams in Burgess, Essex Bank in Callao, Shoppe for Haven’s Sake in Warsaw, and T-Bonz and Tuna and Essex Bank in Tappahannock. Tickets will be available for $20 on the days of the tour and will be available at each garden location.
