‘Jumbo Lump Daddy’ to rock Holly Point Saturday

Jumbo Lump Daddy and the Backfin Boys

by Bill Powell

“Jumbo Lump Daddy and the Backfin Boys,” this Saturday’s Groovin’ in the Park concert performer, is one of this area’s favorite local bands. Voted “Best Local Musicians” by readers of Pleasant Living magazine many times over, Jumbo Lump Daddy plays that toe tappin’ music that gets you moving.

Groovin’ in the Park is this Saturday, August 24, from 6-8 p.m. on the stage at Deltaville Maritime Museum’s Waterfront Park. Gates open at 5 p.m. The Deltaville Farmers’ Market runs that morning 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Jumbo Lump Daddy is Clayton Neal on guitar and harmonica, Gary Archer on lead guitar, Jimmy Gallon laying down the bass, and Winnie McCrobie setting the beat on drums. While Clayton and Gary do the heavy lifting on vocals, Jimmy and Winnie share the load and sing back-up. Check out their Facebook page at CDs will be available.

“Groovin’ in the Park” is Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park’s casual, outdoor music series presented on its Waterfront Stage overlooking scenic Mill Creek. Folks are encouraged to come early, bring their coolers and favorite lawn chair, relax, enjoy, and picnic. Some folding chairs are available if you can’t bring yours.

Forgot your cooler? Make sure to visit Rob and Jane for hot dogs, Bistro barbecue, cole slaw and bottled water, available at their stand next to the Tea House. Enjoy!
