Journalist Bud Ward to speak on local climate change impacts

The public is invited to attend a free presentation by Bud Ward on “Climate Change in Our Own Backyard” hosted by the Northern Neck Master Gardeners. The talk begins at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, at the Transportation Building, Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.

Ward, a resident of White Stone, is an environmental journalist and educator with a distinguished career in natural resources and environmental issues. The author of over 1,000 articles, he has served as a regular commentator for National Public Radio and has earned numerous awards for his leadership in communicating the impacts of climate change.

Based on the most current scientific understanding of climate change/global warming, this presentation will look at the warming climate as it affects low-lying coastal communities and eco-systems, including how it may increasingly influence weather-sensitive and climate-sensitive gardening and agricultural activities.
