It’s Labor Day weekend, time for our annual bonus Groovin’ in the Park concert on the Waterfront Stage at Deltaville Maritime Museum. The concert will be on Saturday, September 1, from 6-8 p.m. and will feature the Josh Walker Trio and songstress Sharon Rae North bringing their smooth as silk renditions of our favorite old standards and popular jazz tunes. “Fly me to the Moon,” “My Way” . . . all our faves. Josh is an internationally known musician with strong Middlesex ties.

The concert will be held on the Waterfront Stage area and gates will open at 5 p.m. This is a bring-your-own lawn chair and cooler concert.

Josh Walker has performed internationally as far away as Japan. He is a multiple-award jazz guitarist who has played at both the Montreal and Toronto Jazz Festival. He composes, plays in multiple groups and he has recently become the Professor of Jazz Guitar at Shepherd University. Josh will have his original CD, “Inertia,” available at the concert. For all things Josh, check out http://www.joshuawalker.net.

The trio consists of seamless guitarist Josh Walker, stand up bassist Karine Chapdelaine, jazz drummer extraordinaire Kevin Gaines and the vocal artistry of Sharon Rae North. This is a “don’t miss” for jazz and easy listening enthusiasts. Whether you are a fan of old standards, classic or modern jazz, this is the music event for you.

As to Sharon Rae, she has a smooth, direct, riveting, delivery that can glide notes as light as a feather one minute and yet knock you over with their power the next. She gives each and every song something special. Check out her website at http://www.sharonraenorth.com. As Jay Edwards, host of Jazz Tones, WCLK, Atlanta, says, “Line up all of the female jazz vocalists you can think of and Sharon Rae North can sing them all under the table.”
