Bristow-Faulkner’s Fun Run participants got off to a fast start at 9 a.m. for the 1-mile loop at Piankatank River Golf Club on December 21.

Under balmy conditions, the Middlesex Family YMCA Jingle Bell 5K and Bristow-Faulkner’s Fun Run were held Saturday, December 21, at Piankatank River Golf Club in Hartfield.

Sponsored by BristowFaulkner Funeral Home, Dano’s Pizza, Revere Gas, Church View Septic, Urbanna Market, Tee’s T-Shirts, Dr. Lemon, Randolph Construction and Miracle’s DJ services, the event raised funds for the YMCA Annual Campaign, which provided over 1,500 scholarships to Middlesex County residents in 2013.

One hundred and thirty runners and walkers participated in the 5K and Fun Run, raising over $3,000 in funds that directly serves Middlesex County.

The energy was contagious as participants toured the unparalleled views of the Piankatank River on their own two feet! Following the winding paths of the Piankatank River Golf Club’s back nine, the course was perfectly distracting for runners/walkers of all skill levels. What an exciting day!

From Santa starting the race to our amazing post-race celebration sponsored by Dano’s Pizza, participants celebrated the Christmas spirit, from start to finish.

“Our YMCA cannot express enough gratitude to the volunteers and sponsors who made this race successful. Great is the joy in giving, and even greater is the spirit in which our supporters bring the mission of the YMCA to life for this community,” said Rosabeth Ward Kissman, Middlesex YMCA Branch Executive.

Special thanks go to our incredible volunteers and friends: Commonwealth Timing, Miracle and Laura Gordon, Gary and Lynne Richardson, Johnny and Cookie Fleet, Jerry and Lynne McMurtrie, Charley Butch and Bev Hart, Catherine Harris, Emily Moore, Tracy and Paul Seitz, Dave Valadez, Sarah, Scott and Larkin Rae, Lauren Figg, Claudia Soucek, Connie Harris, Emily Baily, Sandy and Joe Hickey, Kath and Cullen Walker, Deb and Doug Stoughton, Howard Secrist, Rev. Hyung I.
