Is it Labor Day weekend already? Where did this summer go?

Well, with summer moving on it’s time for our annual visit from internationally-renowned guitarist Josh Walker and his quartet at Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park’s Groovin in the Park music series. What could be a better fit for enjoyment of this last long weekend of summer with friends and family. When you are finished with your fishing, boating or just hanging out on the beach, grab your lawn chairs and come on out to the Waterfront Park bonus Groovin’ concert at Deltaville Maritime Park Saturday, August 31. The gates open at 4 p.m. and the concert is from 6-8 p.m.

The “Loose Canyons” from New York City with Deltaville native Trey Powell will open for Josh at 5 p.m.

Seamless guitarist Josh Walker, vocalist Charles Darden, stand up bassist Karine Chapdelaine, and drummer Kevin Gaines will take over the Waterfront Stage for this “don’t miss” jazz and easy listening performance. Whether you are a fan of old standards, classic or modern jazz this music event is for you.

With family ties in Middlesex, Josh has promised to “bring it on” for a memorable Labor Day Saturday at Groovin’. So, put on those “cool shades,” your “be-bop” shoes, grab your cooler and enjoy!

Check out Walker’s bio and music at, or on his original CD “Inertia.”

Advance tickets are available at the museum office, during open hours and, as always, at the door. Tickets are $10 per person. Children under 12 are free.

Groovin’ will happen, rain or shine. Performances will be under the new Events Pavilion in case of rain.

The drawing for the Library Lottery Raffle will be held at the Groovin’ intermission around 6 p.m. County supervisor Beth Hurd will make the draw for the winning ticket assisted by Catie Lowe, age 8, of Urbanna, who was chosen to be the Summer Reading Program Lottery Picker.
