Humane Society to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday
The Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society (GMHS) will host a Birthday Bash in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and all of the Cats in Hats and everywhere! The party will be on Sunday, March 2, (Seuss’ actual date of birth), from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Gloucester-Mathews-Middlesex Animal Shelter in Gloucester.
“We’re asking everyone who comes to bring a new copy of one of Dr. Seuss’s books that we will distribute to local school libraries,” said Angie White, shelter manager, who recently joined the GMHS staff. White came to the GMHS after serving three years as the administrator of the Veterinary Clinic at Langley. Anyone who brings a book or donates money for one will be able to adopt a cat for $10. That low adoption fee is good only for Sunday, March 2.
By offering a low adoption fee at this time the Humane Society hopes to increase adoptions before “kitten” season, which puts a big strain on the capacity of the shelter.
There will be lots going on at the shelter that day, including face painting, a story time at 2 p.m. and, of course, cake! The birthday cake cutting will take place at 2:30 p.m.

The GMHS is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sunday 1-4 p.m.; closed Monday. Visit the Humane Society on the web at http://www.gmhumanesociety.org.
