Habitat seeks donations to build second house in 2013
by Toni Ewell
Have you sent your check yet? In case you did not get a chance to read last week’s Sentinel article, the Habitat Board of Directors will meet Thursday, January 17, and consider whether it is feasible to plan to build more than one Habitat house in 2013 in Middlesex County.
Why even consider such a challenge? Because there were several finalist families that would have been excellent Habitat partner families for first time homeownership, but only one family can be selected because current plans provide for building only one house in 2013. If enough donations are received to underwrite a second house, Habitat can move forward with its “Leap of Faith” campaign and plan for the construction of two houses in 2013.
What will it take to make this happen? First, cash contributions of $40,000, and second, donations of labor and materials for the two houses that would be built. You can have an influence on this decision that will be made on January 17 by writing that check and sending it to Habitat, P.O. Box 492, Hartfield VA 23071, and/or calling to volunteer your time and labor and materials. The contact number is 758-2044.
There are enough residents in Middlesex County with enough resources to make this happen. If each one of you takes this “Leap of ‘Faith” with the Habitat board, two families can move from substandard rental property into their very own new home before 2013 comes to an end. Make your move now.
