Gloucester Arts on Main will salute two artists inspired by nature from totally different points of view when they have the First Friday Event at the Gallery starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 4. The art will remain on display until May 26.

One of the artists is Renate Bumgarner, who was born and studied art in Germany. She came to the states with her husband and continues her painting. Widowed in 1996, she moved to the Middle Peninsula where she and a friend started the Art League of Gloucester.

The second artist on display is Dr. Maynard Nichols who has found artistic expression after retiring from his 32-year teaching career at VIMS. He studied at Columbia, the Scripps Institute of Oceanography and UCLA (PhD). Through his art, he hopes to inspire people to appreciate the beauty in nature and motivate them to preserve what it has to offer.

Bumgarner’s work is impressionistic and is dedicated to capturing the delicate shading in a flower’s petal to solitude of a beach dune, which has a life of its own.

Gloucester Arts on Main invites the public to meet the artists, discuss their work, and enjoy music and food.

Gloucester Arts on Main is open daily Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.  “Come in and see the art on display. Become a member of Gloucester Arts on Main and support the arts in your community,” said a gallery spokesperson.

For more information, call 804-824-9464.

Gloucester Arts on Main is at 6580-B Main Street in Gloucester Court House.
