Firemen thanked for fighting Feb. 19 forest fire

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors presented a resolution on April 5 to the dedicated volunteers, citizens and businesses who came together in times of emergency during the February 19, 2011 wildfire in Jamaica District that burned 524 acres of forest land.

Board chairman Jack Miller publicly recognized the volunteers and professionals associated with volunteer fire departments from Upper Middlesex (Water View) and its auxiliary, Lower Middlesex (Deltaville), Hartfield, Middlesex (Urbanna), Mathews, Central King and Queen, Tappahannock-Essex, White Stone and Kilmarnock, as well as the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Office Auxiliary and crossing guards, Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad (Urbanna), Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad (Deltaville), Virginia Department of Forestry, Virginia Department of Transportation, Virginia State Police, and Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance.

The supervisors further recognized the following for providing services to the citizens of Middlesex County above and beyond the scope of their normal duties: Ranger Joe Hickey and the Boy Scouts of America at Jamaica, Bill Sawyer and Virginia Motor Speedway, Sandy Powell and Big John’s Convenience Store, The Pilot House Restaurant, Deltaville Market, Corbin Hall Farm, K.E. Gibson Logging, Brown Croxton, Wayne Burch, Montague Farms, Shannon Brincat, Peggy Perry, Celia Collier, John Longest, Bobby Wilson, T.O. Longest Farms, George D. Ellis Inc., David Law, Tony Jones, Steve Hastings, Church View Septic, Charles Whitlock, Warren Rainier, American Red Cross, Mike Blue, Bo and Kristal Reiner, Christian Foster, Union Shiloh Baptist Church and Hermitage Baptist Church.

“We have some of the finest and dedicated people throughout our county and beyond,” Miller said. “This board and the citizens of Middlesex can’t thank you enough for all you did and all you do.”
