Festival Queen contestant is helping non-profits

Urbanna Oyster Festival Queen contestant Anna Shaw of Deltaville, a rising senior at Christchurch School, has created a group that allows members of the community to help out in the local area. The goal of the group is to help in all areas where there is a need.

Rather than raise money, Shaw decided to help in a more hands-on and direct manner. The group, Allen Edward & Friends, has around 20 members and has already helped with various projects, such as the YMCA Sailing Camp, the Child Watch during the Deltaville 5K, cleaning up the playground at the Catholic Church of Visitation in preparation for its upcoming yard sale, visiting rescue pets at the Gloucester-Mathews-Middlesex Animal Shelter, and helping with the Masonic Lodge’s Virginia Child Identification Program.

The various areas of need are largely encompassing. Those interested in being involved in projects such as helping with the Middlesex Museum in Saluda, doing projects at the Middlesex YMCA, and visiting with animals at the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, or more information about the projects, should contact Shaw at 904-263-2161 or by email at .
