Family Boatbuilding Week to begin July 14

by Bill Powell
Events Director
Maritime Museum

The 12th Annual Family Boatbuilding Week, Deltaville Maritime Museum’s wonderful hands-on learning and bonding experience allowing family groups to turn stacks of wood into their own sleek, versatile, work skiff, begins Monday, July 14, and continues through Saturday, July 19.

On that Saturday, eight proud builder families will compete in the “Great Skiff Race” for braggin’ rights. The race begins at 10 a.m. and will be followed by the annual fish fry which is open to the public at 11:30 a.m.

Family Boatbuilding Week 2014 is sold out but applications are available for FBW 2015. Check with the museum office or stop by any time during the boatbuilding.

All are welcome to drop by the maritime park any time during FBW and watch the progress as stacks of wood have become discrete, floating, watercraft. Watch and enjoy as the families and groups work in concert to form a thing of beauty.

To find out everything you need to know about the museum and park, purchase event tickets, donate, volunteer, or become a member visit http://www.deltavillemuseum.com, email or call 776-7200. The museum mailing address is P.O. Box 466, Deltaville, VA 23043.
