Boat builders Rawleigh Simmons (yellow boat, left) and stepson Chas Faulkner (yellow boat, right), both of Wicomico Church, show their 4-handed rowing style aboard the Wright skiff “Special Edition” as they race toward the finish line and first place in the Great Skiff Race last Saturday.

The race, trophy presentation, and fish fry marked the finale of Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park’s 11th annual Family Boat Building Week. Chas’ grandfather, Fred Gaskins of Urbanna, also was part of the Special Edition team.

Also in the above photo, the blue-hulled “One Fish, Two Fish” takes an early lead in the race with builders Jake Noble and his mother Terry aboard. Spectators lined the Pierwalk to watch the race, and kayaks and other small craft can be seen in the background above along the banks of Mill Creek.

“Many thanks to the volunteers and intrepid build crews working during a hot, hot week,” said an event spokesperson.
