The Holly Ball committee recently announced the names of the eight young ladies who will be presented at the 116th Holly Ball at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club on December 28 beginning at 7 p.m.

The annual Holly Ball, the fund-raising charitable arm supporting The Tidewater Foundation, was pleased to make a variety of contributions in 2011 to many worthy entities in and around the Northern Neck, said publicity chairman Patricia Gallagher.

The committee delights in observing these young ladies embrace a time-honored tradition and mission of preserving a philanthropic legacy of giving back, said Gallagher. The events hosted by the debutants during the holiday season unite them and foster a spirit of altruistic advocacy. They also inspire the formation of new and genuine lifelong friendships among likeminded women who wholeheartedly endorse returning gifts bestowed upon them to charitable organizations.

Miss Jency McCullough Rogers will reign as Queen of the Holly Realm. Miss Rogers, a student of Bridgewater College, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Ray Rogers III of Reedville.

The debutantes are Miss Heather Lynne Carter, a student at Rappahannock Community College, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Everette Carter of Lancaster; Miss Emma Shanklin Hand, a student at Virginia Tech, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Vandervort Hand of Lancaster; and Miss Emma East Hollowell, a student at the University of Virginia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Warren Hollowell of Lancaster.

Also, Miss LeighAnna Virginia Morris, a student at the University of Virginia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hart Morris IV of Warsaw; Miss Mary Jo Muse, a student at Radford University, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Flemming Muse of Bowlers Wharf; and Miss Ashleigh Nicole Saunders, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Evans Saunders of Kilmarnock.

Also, Miss Melissa Ann Schomer, a student at James Madison University, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Joseph Schomer of Lancaster; and Miss Kendall Carey Tignor, a student at Longwood University, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Eugene Tignor of Caret.
