The Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department hosted Firefighters for Education Day on August 28 at the firehouse.
“Thanks to all the parents and grandparents who brought their kids and grandkids out for this event,” said an event spokesperson. “The younger kids got to color pictures dealing with escaping from their house in case of a fire, and the older kids made and colored pictures about ‘Stop Drop and Roll.’ ”
Kindergarten through second grade coloring contest winners were Christina Hines, 1st place; Nathan Hogge, 2nd place; and Savannah Thompson, 3rd place.
The contest winner in grades 3-5 was Haley Revere, 1st place.
Middle school coloring contest winners were Matthew Horne and James Blake, who tied for 1st place.
The kids got to try on a real set of turnout gear worn by the firemen and enjoyed seeing a Life EVAC medical helicopter land. Each child had the opportunity to sit in the seats of the medical helicopter.
There were baked goods on sale by the HVFD Auxiliary. Free hot dogs and drinks were available for all who attended. A big box of school supplies was collected and these school supplies will be given to the Middlesex County Public Schools.
“The Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department extends a special thank-you to Susan Dize who organized and coordinated the entire event,” said the HVFD spokesperson.
