Donk’s to open 2013 season Saturday night

Donk’s Theater, Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry in Mathews, will open its 2013 season on Saturday, February 16. The show will be an Opry all-star presentation featuring the regular Opry staff and the Talent Search winner for 2012, Natalie Archebeque, as well as long-time favorite P.J. Owens.

The opening show promises to be a celebration of country music old and new and will showcase Archebeque and her versatility as she presents songs made famous by JoDee Messina, Suzy Bogguss, Wynonna Judd and Lorrie Morgan. The show also will feature the “Shades of Country” band, Uncle Jimmy Wickham and the 2013 Donk’s cast.

In addition, Opry talent and production manager Lynda Smith will announce some changes to the “Opry” cast as they open the new season and provide information concerning an upcoming appearance on March 16 by the Grammy award-winning group “The Isaacs,” who perform regularly with “The Gaithers,” and recently performed at Carnagie Hall.

Children are welcome—no matter what their age. Regular admission is $12 for adults and $5 for children. Show time is 8 p.m. Doors open to the public at 7:30 p.m. For tickets and information, call 725-7760.
