Donk’s Theater to host ‘reunion night’ Saturday

“Cousin” Wade Hall and the late Buck Trent, a former star of the TV show “Hee-Haw,” play banjos together at a past Donk’s reunion show.

On Saturday, June 8, Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry in Mathews will present a special show to commemorate its anniversary of 38 years of country music at Donk’s Theater.

Opening on June 14, 1975, Donk’s has continually provided a country music venue to people of all ages and from all over the world. It is not unusual for Donk’s to host patrons from England, Australia, Germany, and from California to Maine, Florida to North Dakota on any given Saturday night.

On the schedule for the anniversary show are some Donk’s favorites from “long ago” and some recent favorites. Performers scheduled to appear include Cindy Miles Price and Jule Farmer (both Virginia State Champion Female Vocalists), Christy Snyder, P.J. Owens, Kim Person and Lana Pucket, Joe Calloway (Virginia State Champion Male Vocalist), Richard Smith and Holt Ripley (both Virginia State Champion Junior Entertainers), Toby Calloway, “Cousin” Wade Hall, Walt Stillman and more.

Current Opry members will present their “signature songs.” The show also will feature Shades of Country, Uncle Jimmy Wickham and the 2013 cast.

Children are welcome—no matter what their age—and the popcorn is freshly popped. Regular admission is $12 for adults, and $5 for children. Show time is 8 p.m. Doors open to the public at 7:30 p.m. For tickets and information, call 725-7760 or visit
