Donk’s Theater opens 2014 season Saturday

Donk’s Theater in Mathews, Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry, will open its 2014 season on Saturday, February 15, with a show designed to welcome back the Opry regulars and feature some favorites from the 2013 talent showcases.

Audience favorites from the showcases include Lee Loudermilk from Gloucester, Josh Grigsby from Colonial Beach, and Walt Stillman of Mathews.  Also, joining the house band, “Shades of Country,” will be guitarist Sam Hogge of Gloucester, who played guitar on the first show at Donk’s 39 years ago. 

“Musical performances will include old and new country, gospel and a touch of bluegrass, promising a night of fantastic entertainment as Donk’s kicks off its 39th year,” said a Donk’s spokesperson.

With a look towards future shows, Donk’s talent and production manager Lynda Smith has announced that talent showcases will continue in 2014 with the first one scheduled for March 1. Donk’s encourages all want-to-be performers to “get tuned up and join Shades of Country” for this talent showcase. 

The show this Saturday also will feature Shades of Country, Uncle Jimmy Wickham and the 2014 cast.
