The Deltaville Farmers’ Market ends its summer season in style this Saturday, August 28, with all the vendors pulling out the stops to make this the best market of the summer. Opening at 9 a.m. and continuing until 1 p.m., the Middle Peninsula’s “Premier Farmer’s Market” is now its fastest growing as well.
Located under the trees and around the gardens of Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park, there’s always a breeze off Mill Creek, the museum’s waterfront access. “With the shade and the breeze, it always feels 10 degrees cooler at the Deltaville Market,” said shopper Nancy Jackson of Richmond.

All the local produce, meat, cheese and egg vendors will be on hand with some of the last of the summer crop. Shop for that hard-to-find item with the music of Deltaville guitarist and singer David Moran in the background. All your favorite art, pottery, items of whimsy, jewelry, unusual items and handcraft vendors will be spread among the arbors of Holly Point Park.
The “Boatshop Guys” are collecting all sorts of goodies for their nautical flea market under the Boatshop. Folks can clean out that boat locker and drop off to the guys. Donation receipts for tax purposes on request. Tables are available to sell your own items for $15 each table.
Billz Bistro will open as usual at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast sandwiches, water and coffee.
As soon as the eggs run out, the Bistro switches to its popular lunch menu, around 10 a.m., with hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, Eastern Carolina barbecue, Blastburgers and cole slaw. The Bistro will introduce its new menu item this Saturday, “Bistrobweenies.”
There will be a special bonus at the market for all museum members. Starting at 10 a.m. there will be free cruises previewing the new “Discovery Cruises” planned over the next year by the museum board. Hop aboard the beautifully restored “Lillian B.” for a trip around Mill Creek and Jackson Creek with Captain Pete Cardozo’s commentary on local history and wildlife. Bring your camera and binoculars. “Lillian” accommodates up to 12 passengers and will run at least four cruises. Museum memberships are available at the museum during the market.
Admission to the museum is always free on market days. The nature trails, gardens and sculpture paths are always open and serve as a pleasant shopper diversion.
A Groovin’ in the Park concert featuring bluesman Terry Garland also will be this Saturday from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, or in advance at the museum office or Nauti-Nell’s. All proceeds maintain the museum and park.
Although this Saturday’s market will be the last of the museum and park’s summer markets, there will be three more markets all on the 4th Saturday of September, October and November from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
The two Autumn Farmers’ Markets on September 25 and October 23 will feature fall produce. The Holiday Farmers’ Market and Pierwalk Promenade on November 27, Thanksgiving Saturday, will be geared toward holiday gifts, offer an expanded menu at Billz Bistro, classic watercraft tours at the Pierwalk and free creek cruises on Mill and Jackson creeks.
Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park is a non-profit organization at 287 Jackson Creek Road and on Mill Creek. Turn right off Route 33 across from the Shell Station to get there.
Holly Point Nature Park, the Pierwalk and all other outside exhibits, gardens and facilities are open dawn to dusk throughout the year, except during pre-announced private events.
