Deltaville Community Association report
by Raynell Smith
Memorial Day is right around the corner and Deltaville will be festooned with American flags courtesy of the Deltaville Community Association (DCA) and Keith Ruse and crew. Keith takes time from his busy schedule to repair and replace all the flags and poles that line our main street. Get in touch if you would be willing to “sponsor” a flag near your house or business (call 804-815-3102).
The monthly meeting of the DCA was held on April 18 and called for 6 p.m. so members of the board could attend the county budget hearing in Saluda. The DCA board voted unanimously to support funding for a business and tourism promoter for the county, and urged as many people as possible to show their support for this new position at the budget hearing.
Traditionally, the Deltaville Pool opens for the season on Memorial Day weekend and this year is no exception. Billy Norton, Jill Davis and Jerry McMurtrie are working on getting the pool cleaned and painted for the new season. Kelly Thomas has been hired to manage the pool this year, lifeguards have been hired, and the rumor that we will have a swim team again has been confirmed. Great news! Applications for membership are available on our website at http://www.deltavilleva.com, or call Savilla Pleasants for more information at 776-6425.
The president of the DCA, Carolyn Schmalenberger, is excited about all of the amazing things happening in Deltaville and welcomes anyone who wishes to volunteer their time in support of our outstanding community. “In particular, we are looking for a ‘boosters club’ for the Deltaville Pool to help with grounds maintenance and fundraising in support of the pool. Our fees remain low due to volunteers and we want to be able to keep reasonable memberships and dues,” Schmalenberger noted.
Spring has sprung. The azaleas are blooming and the trees are back in leaf. Time to come out of hibernation and join in all the activities. The next DCA meeting will be May 16 at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
