Volunteers are busy preparing for a “Raise the Roof” festival at Historic Christ Church on Saturday, July 19, from 4-8 p.m. The event, which will help raise funds for the preservation and repair of the 1897 slate roof of the 1735 church, will feature a barbecue with fixin’s from Kilmarnock’s Savannah Joe’s, live music by the popular group “James Justin & Co.” and 12 craft beers served in a souvenir glass by distributor Specialty Beverage of Virginia. James Justin & Co. will perform “non-traditional folk music” with a bluegrass flavor.
The beer fest will be held, rain or shine. Two tents will ensure that party-goers stay dry and shaded, no matter the weather.
A $30 ticket will purchase four 6-ounce tastings of beer that range from pale ales to porter and lager, wine for those who prefer that beverage, soft drinks and water, barbecue, and music by James Justin & Co.
The website http://www.christchurch1735.org provides more information, including a list of the 12 craft beers that will be available at the festival and online. Another way to purchase tickets is by mail at P.O. Box 24, Irvington, VA 22480, by email at , or in person at 420 Christ Church Road, Weems.
