Christmas Friends needs delivery vans and crews

Christmas Friends shoppers have hit the road, thanks to several volunteers who worked many hours last week to assemble their packets of information, including a “wish list” for each of the 300 children and senior adults to be served in 2013.

The shopping packets became available last Thursday and Friday, and some of this year’s 95 volunteer shoppers went right to work. Completed gift bags began arriving back at the Southside Sentinel early this week.

Although the Sentinel will be closed Thursday and Friday, many more bags are expected after the Thanksgiving holiday, and then the focus turns to wrapping. At this point, wrapping sessions at the Sentinel are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, December 8.

If you can help with the wrapping on one of those days, please call 758-2328.

Led by shopping coordinator Bettie Lee Gaskins, those who assisted in preparing the shoppers’ packets last week included Geanie Longest, Ellen Carneal, Margie Hall, Jean Hill, JoAnne Moore, Kathy Kauffman, Donna Smith, Judy Pitts and Ann Padgett.

Make donations payable to Christmas Friends Inc., c/o Southside Sentinel, P.O. Box 549, Urbanna, VA 23175.

You can also use the PayPal “Donate” button at the bottom of this page.

Several more vans with drivers are needed for delivery of the gifts. If you have a van and are willing to remove its back seats and be the driver for one of 12 delivery teams on Saturday, December 14, please call 758-2328.

The fund-raising goal for Christmas Friends this year is $25,000.
