Volunteers sort through hundreds of bags of gifts that were delivered to almost 325 Middlesex County children and elderly citizens on Saturday.

Christmas Friends has nearly completed another year of helping the needy. With just a few hitches, over 350 gift bags, bicycles and other riding toys were delivered throughout Middlesex County last Saturday. The effort involved 13 private vans and a crew of 26 volunteers.

Another $5,612.35 in donations came in this week. With total donations of $21,920.71, the Christmas Friends fund is nearing its goal of $26,000.

This season Christmas Friends has already spent $30,610, which includes all of the $26,903 that was donated last year plus some cash reserves, said Christmas Friends president Fred Gaskins.  “The funds need to be replaced so Christmas Friends shoppers can get their usual early start next year,” Gaskins said.

This year 325 people were served by Christmas Friends, more than at any time in the giving program’s 26-year history.

Christmas Friends thanks the following who donated items for the “Party in a Party” silent auction conducted December 10 at Bethpage Camp-Resort:
