Christmas Friends applications needed
The 2009 season is rapidly approaching for Christmas Friends and those who might need its services need to apply soon through the Middlesex County Department of Social Services.
Christmas Friends has worked with the county for 23 years to provide gifts to children and many elderly adults who qualify for assistance. The social services department accepts applications and refers those who qualify to Christmas Friends. An army of local volunteers then goes into action, contributing money, shopping, wrapping and delivering gifts throughout the county.
October 30 is the final day that applications can be received. The forms are available at the social services office at Cooks Corner and at the Southside Sentinel in Urbanna. Because of county budget constraints, no applications are being mailed this year.
